Jean Marshall of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will discuss recent OSHA job safety changes at the Thursday open meeting of the Southeast Missouri Area Labor-Management Cooperation Committee, Inc.
The program begins at 7 p.m. at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. It is open to the public at no charge.
Specific topics that will be discussed during the meeting include the new penalty laws, fire safety, trenching, and new guidelines involving the construction industry. There will be time for questions and answers on any OSHA areas that are of particular interest.
"Keeping up-to-date on OSHA regulations is always important for both labor and management," said Alan Gregory, owner of Gregory Construction Co. of Jackson, and committee management chairperson. "I think the LMCC members are particularly interested in the new guidelines for the construction industry.
Ernie Brown, business agent for Laborers Local 1104, agrees. "This is something that is everyone's responsibility, not just something management has to carry the load for. We need to work on this together and we can start by learning about the new guidelines together," he said.
