Membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy is open to women age 16 or older who are blood descendants of a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. Proof of ancestor service is required.
The organization was founded in St. Louis in July 1897. It was formed by Southern women to aid Confederate soldiers and their families.
