An Oran, Missouri, man is accused of breaking his girlfriend's phone in half, biting her on her left arm and choking her the night of July 29 when she accused him of possessing stolen property.
Scott County sheriff's deputies arrested Leo T. Steinbrenner III, 32, of Oran on Tuesday on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault at an address in the 200 block of Mulberry Street.
The Scott County prosecuting attorney's office charged Steinbrenner with second-degree domestic assault, felonious restraint, misdemeanor property damage and misdemeanor harassment. Steinbrenner's bond was set at $7,500 cash only.
Steinbrenner carried a box of items into the house at 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Mulberry Street, and the victim believed those items were stolen, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed by Oran police chief Gregg Ourth.
The victim attempted to call the police, but Steinbrenner became enraged and broke her cellphone in half, Ourth wrote.
Steinbrenner then bit the victim on the inside of her upper left arm and choked her, according to the affidavit. Ourth wrote he observed swelling and bruising on the victim's arm and neck and bruising on her chest, upper left thigh and right knee.
The victim told police she tried to leave the residence, but Steinbrenner locked the door and physically held her inside until 1 p.m. Saturday, Ourth wrote.
Steinbrenner eventually was found at the residence Tuesday, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed by Scott County deputy sheriff Danny Finley.
The victim found Steinbrenner inside the house just before 3 a.m. and was concerned she might suffer further physical abuse, Finley wrote.
