Alex Schlitt has more than $1,000 worth of World War II memorabilia displayed in his museum.
His museum isn't open to the general public, it's located in the basement of his parent's home in Oran. But if you're a friend or family member, he'll be happy to give you a tour through his museum.
The Oran sixth grader has been collecting Navy uniforms, sleeping bags, silverware and metals for the past two years. He's even got an original Purple Heart in display case.
Schlitt invited about 50 friends and family members to his museum's open house on Wednesday.
Most of Schlitt's memorabilia was purchased off Ebay or at the Barks Auction building, located between Cape Girardeau and Jackson.
Schlitt's parents, Jo and Michael, are shocked at the World War II facts their 12-year-old son can rattle off.
"We're surprised because neither of us has a big interest in history or the war," said Jo Schlitt, Alex's mother who teaches at Oran Elementary School.
Schlitt first became interested in World War II history after he went to an auction with his grandfather about two years ago.
