The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department May 30 will sponsor its fourth annual youth Catch and Release Fishing Clinic at Capaha Park.
Children ages 5 through 16 are invited to participate in the clinic, which will stress "catch and release."
A number of prizes will be awarded, including two Zebco rod and reels, a South Bend reel, a Magnum tackle box, and other souvenirs.
Participants must provide their own rod and reel and bait. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with fishing to start immediately after.
This event is part of "Optimist Action Day" and will be co-sponsored by the Breakfast, Evening, Noon and Excelsior Optimist Clubs, which will provide a noon lunch for the participants.
The Missouri Department of Conservation also will assist with the event.
The clinic is free, and transportation will be provided if needed from local public grade schools beginning at about 8 a.m. and returning at about 12:30 p.m.
Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
