The Optimist Club of Cape Girardeau was one of three Optimist clubs in the world to earn Triple Distinguished Club honors for its work in the community.
The three honored clubs are among 4,200 Optimist clubs worldwide, said Henry Adams, club president.
The club also earned Honor Club, Distinguished Club, and Double Distinguished Club distinctions for achieving levels of excellence in youth service projects, membership growth and club administration.
The Optimist Club of Cape Girardeau also won first place among the 76 clubs in the East Missouri District.
The Optimist Club motto is "Friend of Youth." Among the service projects sponsored by the Optimist Club of Cape Girardeau were essay and oratorical contests, a basketball program involving more than 600 boys, Just Say No and Get Real clubs, and Youth in Government days.
The club recently has added 29 members and also started two new clubs, one in Ste. Genevieve and one in Chaffee.
