A limited number of openings remain for the final community Internet training class of 1999.

This training session aimed at beginners is co-sponsored by the Southeast Missourian and Southeast Missouri State University. It is taught by members of the SEMissourian.com Web staff.

The class will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, from 1-3 p.m. in Dempster Hall on the university campus. Each participant will have his or her own computer with high-speed Internet. The hands-on session will cover such topics as why the Internet is so popular, how to read a Web address, how to use a search engine and other practical tips. Participants will also surf to a number of useful Internet sites.

A number of informational handouts will be distributed.

Since the classes began in 1997, more than 1,000 people from throughout the region have received Internet training through the program. Participants have ranged in age from 8 to 94.

Door prizes will also be awarded.

The cost is $10 for newspaper subscribers. New subscribers can pay $13.50 for one month and receive the class free. The cost is $20 for non-subscribers.

An admission ticket and parking pass will be issued upon payment. Tickets are transferable to another individual, but nonrefundable.

Interested persons can call the Southeast Missouri at 335-6611, ext. 151, and ask for Sharon Rogers. Registration is limited to 38 individuals per session.
