DELTA -- Patrons and alumni of Delta schools can say goodbye to the old Delta High School building and tour the new one at an open house Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The district built a 19,900-square-foot addition to the Lowell Jones Building on the high school campus. The building provides space for a library; cafeteria; multipurpose area; offices for the principal, superintendent, health-services and secretarial staff; and classrooms for special education, business, home economics and science.
Superintendent Larry Beshears said he is working from his new office and most of the construction is complete. School equipment and furnishings are being moved into the new facility.
The high school built in the 1920s will be razed.
"We are giving alumni and patrons a chance to go through the old building and reminisce before the demolition," Beshears said.
The new high school building will be open for tours. "They can see what their tax dollars are paying for," Beshears said.
The old building is to be demolished before school starts.
Voters in April 1993 approved a $1.05 million bond issue for the building.
