A Jackson man was injured Saturday morning as the vehicle he was driving ran off the right side of U.S. 61 and struck a ditch and several mailboxes, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports website. The 2000 Volkswagon driven by Daniel S. Herzog, 24, sustained extensive damage.

Herzog was traveling one mile north of Fruitland when the accident occurred at around 3:30 a.m.

He was transported by private vehicle to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was treated for moderate injuries. Citations are pending.
