Former Jackson High School Principal Warren McClellan Sarff of Kirkwood, Mo., died Jan. 20, at age 88.
Sarff received a bachelor's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1934, where he was an athlete. He received a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
He began his teaching career in 1934 at Bell City, Mo. He then taught and was principal at Jackson schools in the late 1940s. Later he served at Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis County and was an educator in Kirkwood 30 years.
Sarff was a deacon and usher at First Presbyterian Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, signing a contract with the Jackson School District Dec. 3, 1945, to take effect "as soon as possible" after his Navy discharge.
