One killed, two injured when train hits SUV
ROBERTSVILLE, Mo. -- A BNSF Railway train struck a Ford Explorer as it crossed a railroad track Thursday in Franklin County, killing the driver and critically injuring two passengers. Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Al Nothum said the accident occurred at 9:35 a.m. near Route AK in the eastern Missouri town Robertsville. The victim was identified as Douglas Fuller, 59, of St. Louis. Anne Fuller, 22, and Laura Warren, 21, both of St. Louis, were being treated for critical injuries at a St. Louis hospital. The SUV crossed the tracks just as the train approached. The train struck the side of the SUV, Nothum said. Douglas Fuller apparently didn't stop, look or listen as he approached the tracks, Nothum said.
BNSF spokesman Steve Forsberg said the track had a standard rail crossing warning sign, but no gate or light. He said any upgrade from a warning sign is determined and paid for by the state.
