WARDELL -- Four people were injured and a child was killed when two vehicles collided at the junction of Pemiscot County Roads 249 and 244 Sunday afternoon.

Elizabeth Manley, 8, of Wardell, was pronounced dead at the scene after the southbound car driven by her mother, Lecia Manley, 26, broadsided a pickup truck headed east, driven by Lonnie Goodwin, 55, of Portageville.

Both vehicles then ran off the road and overturned in a culvert.

A spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol said none of the drivers or passengers was wearing seat belts.

Goodwin received moderate injuries and Manley, her 5-year-old son, Michael, and her 9-year-old son, Jonathan, all received serious injuries in the accident.

All four were transported to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
