One Scott County man was killed and another seriously hurt in two separate crashes that happened within minutes of each other in Scott County on Sunday. One Scott County man was killed and another seriously hurt in two separate crashes that happened within minutes of each other in Scott County on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Jeremy N. Reeves, 35, of Benton, Mo., died Sunday after his Jeep Wrangler ran off the road and overturned on U.S. 61, three miles north of Benton, at about 6:17 p.m. He wasn't wearing a seat belt. Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a separate crash, James B. Pirtle, 45, of Scott City had serious injuries after his ATV traveled off the road, struck a trash can, overturned and ejected him on Scott County Road 331 near Benton at about 6:25 p.m., the patrol reported. He was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center.
