Cape Girardeau police are still searching for the person or people involved in an early morning shooting Sunday that injured a 21-year-old Cape Girardeau resident.
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Bloomfield Street around 3:30 a.m. after dispatchers received numerous 911 calls from residents in the area reporting gunshots fired.
The first officer on scene reported that about 100 people were gathered near the injured man laying in the road at 1021 Bloomfield St.
Sgt. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said officers cleared the scene as quickly as possible so medical personnel could treat the injured man.
"The last we heard he was in stable condition at one of the hospitals," said Selzer, who isn't releasing the victim's name at this time.
After speaking with witnesses at the scene, officers began searching for a four-door silver vehicle with its passenger side window broken out.
Witnesses told police they has seen the car leave the area after shots were fired, but didn't see anyone fire a gun from the vehicle.
Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Department quickly found the vehicle and brought in four men for questioning about the shooting incident.
Investigators located no weapon and the suspects told police someone broke out the vehicle's window with a beer bottle, Selzer said.
"At this time the prosecutor's office doesn't feel we have enough to charge them with anything," Selzer said.
The four suspects were released before noon Sunday.
Anyone with new information about the shooting should contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621.
