SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety has one man in custody and are seeking a second man in connection with a Friday shooting on Ruth Street.

On Monday morning police released the name of the man who was arrested. Rikko Montez Cox, 17, of Sikeston, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, first- and second-degree attempted robbery and unlawful use of a weapon, according to a news release from Sikeston police.

Another suspect is still being sought.

According to chief Drew Juden, an officer found out about the incident at about 8:45 p.m. Friday while being treated at Missouri Delta Medical Center for an injury received while making an arrest.

Jacob Thompson, 18, of Sikeston arrived at the hospital with some injuries from an assault as well as a gunshot wound, according to Juden. Thompson said he had been in the 800 block of Ruth Street when he was assaulted by two men. After he was knocked to the ground, he was then shot by one of the men.

"He also reported to us that the same type of incident had happened at the same location on Thursday, the night before, minus the shooting," Juden said.

Acting on information from Thompson, officers arrested one man authorities believe was involved in the incident and were investigating the identity of the second man.

Juden said Thompson was in stable condition at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
