MATTHEWS, Mo. -- One person is dead after a train struck a vehicle Wednesday in New Madrid County, the Standard Democrat reported.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. at the railroad crossing at county roads 820 and 843. A motorist was traveling westbound on County Road 820 and failed to yield to the southbound Burlington Northern-Sante Fe train.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner Jimmy McSpadden. As of 4:15 p.m., the name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of the family.
