SIKESTON, Mo. -- A man suspected in an earlier theft from a local business was taken into custody Monday following a brief pursuit, the Standard Democrat reported. About 7 p.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was notified by employees at Wal-Mart of a man suspected in the theft of two computers Aug. 3. At the time, store officials said the man was pushing a cart containing two additional computers. When officers arrived, Capt. Bill Mygatt said, the suspect left in a vehicle but was stopped on the Wal-Mart parking lot. The suspect got out of his vehicle, attempting to flee on foot, but fell and was detained by officers. The man, whose name was not released pending the filing of formal charges, was positively identified by store employees as involved in the Aug. 3 theft, Mygatt said. He is also wanted by law enforcement authorities in Cape Girardeau and Charleston, Missouri.
