This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "How would you feel about the City of Cape Girardeau funding the cost of operating the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport control tower?"

Marla Summers, Cape Girardeau

"Well, if we lose the funding then I would say yes, it would need to be done."

Rick Doan, Cape Girardeau

"I think it would be a good idea because I think an airport would do more to help the city to keep the commerce coming in and going out than it would be to hurt the city. I think it's very important to keep that airport going. The biggest reason is the commerce."

Sheila Williams, Cape Girardeau

"Well, I think that if the tower is going to close on a temporary basis then it would be fine for the city to pick it up because of the safety. I think it's necessary to have safety. If it's going to raise taxes I'd say no."

George Russell, Cape Girardeau

"I figure that they probably should. I think it would probably help the continuity down there knowing there was going to be funding there every month and...our tax dollars should fund it. The airport is a viable part of our economy here."

Mark Thurman, Cape Girardeau

"Before they did anything I'd like to see how many people use it first. Some kind of Cape study...then depending on how much business it does...appropriate enough money for it. (After finding out the yearly cost of operating the tower was $170,000) I'd have to say no then. St. Louis is just a two-hour drive and with schools and everything else I think the money could go to other areas."
