The current minimum wage in Missouri is $4.25 per hour. A bill was introduced to raise the minimum wage to $6.25. The Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think the Missouri minimum wage should be?"
Carol Rohlfs, Jackson
"I think it should be raised. I think that ($6.25) is a little too high. I think about halfway between (current wage) and there, $5.50.
Treasia Foster, St. Louis
"I think it should be $6.25 ... When I hear minimum wage I feel that at least a minimum standard of living on it ... $4.25 is not good enough right now to live off of. It really isn't."
John Reed, Cape Girardeau
"I think it should be raised but then again I think it should be based on what you can do. I think $5.50 would be OK."
Sharon Young, Cape Girardeau
"I think $5.50. Minimum wage at $6.25 ... I don't think you can get any of the younger people to even stay at a job for a week for that. Once they get the first paycheck they're out of there on that one."
Sam Barnhart, Cape Girardeau
"It should be the $6.25 because the thing of it is is that nobody can live on $4.25 an hour. That is stupid."
