This week The Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think about Mark McGwire re-signing with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team for the next season?"

William Lee, Cape Girardeau

"I think it's too much money. The money that was spent you could get two above average players that will do just as much as he can."

Randy Winston, Poplar Bluff

"I think it's wonderful. The guy's already turned around and gave a million of it back to charity. He took less money than he had to take to stay under the cap to help them sign Stottlemyre. He's the premier home run hitter in the majors right now. Why wouldn't they sign him?"

Ron Taylor, Sikeston

"I think it's a good thing because he's going to give a million back per year to abused children which is pretty cool. He's giving back to the community which St. Louis definitely needs."

Nick Vickery, Cape Girardeau

"I think it's great as long as they get rid of Gant and Eckersly."

Don Olesen, St. Louis

"I think it's terrific. Because I think he's a gold glove first baseman, hits a lot of home runs and we need somebody in the lineup that can do that."
