This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think of the governments decision that would allow motorists to apply for a permit to put an on/off switch on their car's airbag?"

Jason Kem, Jefferson City

I think that they should let the government have standards for the car companies to follow and that should be the rule. They shouldn't let people decide."

Bobby Reed, Cape Girardeau

"I think that it defeats the purpose of putting an airbag on there in the first place. I heard about that being hazardous to kids so in that way it would be understandable. For shorter adults I guess they've got to fit right there in the steering wheel and that's going to be quite a bit of impact so I'd be in favor of it."

"If they want to why not. I guess for people like that are handicapped they could apply for it. Kids, it depends. They should be in the back seat. If they want to go for it."

April Penrod, Jackson

"Especially for small children, yes. I think they should because you've heard of so many things happen when those things popping open with little children. Personally, I guess yes they should be allowed to."

Xandra Gibson, Cairo

"I think it's great. I think for the safety of the children and adults who may not be able to take the air bag."
