This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "Do you think Mark McGwire will break the single season home run record?"

"I think he will as long as the Cardinals don't get in the race. If they get in the race down the pennant stretch I think he'll have trouble breaking the record. Because I just think the pressure with the pennant and all of that ... but if he can relax at the plate I think he'll have a good chance of breaking it."

Larry Glueck, Chaffee

"I believe he has a very good shot of doing it. I believe he will if they continue to pitch to him. If they do that, he'll break it."

Joe Rice, Chaffee

"I think he will as long as Brian Jordan stays hot and healthy hitting the ball the way he is."

"Yes, because I saw an interview with him and he watches the pitchers. He really practices ... he watches the pitchers before every game. He's not just relying on his strength, he's learning the pitchers."

"He's off to a pretty good start right now. I just think he will. He's such a good hitter. He goes out there, he really doesn't let the crowd bother him. I don't think he's after a home run. I think he just goes out there to do his job."
