This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "Why do you buy produce from roadside stands rather than a grocery store?"
Clifford Self, Dongola, Ill.
"Because it's cheaper and fresher. You get more for you money."
Mary Sloan, Dongola, Ill.
"I can get more for my money. It's cheaper, better quality and I like it better. It's fresher, better to eat and easy to cook."
David Duty, Anna, Ill.
"Well, most of the time if you're local or live around here you know the person and how they've grown it and whether they have chemicals in it. Most people in this area like to grow it organically ... it's better for you. Plus, if you get stuff from Florida a lot of times it is ... a tomato will be green on the inside but it looks red. And here you get these tomatoes and their soft and they're just perfect."
Fred King, Cobden, Ill.
"Well, you can pick out better stuff. They can get it their self and they pick it out. They don't have it pulled in on a truck. They've got them (fruits and vegetables) cold and they really taste good."
James Korando, Jacob, Ill.
"I think they've got a better selection of stuff and most of this stuff you can pick out what you want and put it in a bag. You don't have to buy it already bagged up. I just like to do business with people out here along the highway."
