The Southeast Missourian asked people about their experience with recent winter weather.

James Sechrest, Marble Hill: "We're just trying to stay warm. The drive from Marble Hill to Cape has been slick. The 30-minute drive has been taking about an hour or more to make it in. Quite a few cars were off in a ditch."

Patrick Abbott, Cape Girardeau: "Our driveway is on a hill, so you have to be careful. We lived in Chicago for six years, and people there are used to it. To me, what we have here is not that big a deal. It's the other people you have to worry about."

Theresa Horst, Jackson: "It took me over an hour to get to work in Cape from Jackson Friday. Traffic was not able to get up the hill by the water slide on Highway 61. When I got to work, I almost slid under the car with my fingers gripped to the window."

Ron Mitchell, Cape Girardeau: "I'm a cold-weather person. Having lived in Chicago for 20 years, I like the winter, but I don't like the ice. We've been doing well to be into January, and just now it's been sort of bad."

Lauri Swallow, Cape Girardeau: "I was happy we got out of school, because it postponed a couple of tests, but I was bored. I don't drive on the ice. I haven't driven on ice before, and I didn't take the opportunity."
