Jackson Family, Career Community and Leaders of America will present its second annual "Sell a gown, Save a Life" event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22, in the old gym by the football stadium at the high school. Students, even those of college age, are invited to participate in the event no matter what school they attend.
Bring clean, used formal gowns for resale to Jackson High School Music/Agriculture Building on the campus of the school from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 and from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 to the old gym.
Dress owners will be able to specify the monetary amount required for the gowns brought into FCCLA. Twenty percent of the sale profit from every gown will be donated to the Relay for Life, with the remainder going to the seller. FCCLA will not charge a handling fee this year. Any unsold gowns and/or gown proceeds will be distributed and picked up from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 23. Leftover gowns not picked up will be donated to charity.
Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration. Last year more than $400,000 was donated to Relay For Life by FCCLA chapters in the United States.
Advisers Rebecca Daume and Cathy Boyd said last year's event produced $4,000 in gown sales, of which $400 was donated to Relay for Life.
For more information, contact Daume or Boyd during school hours at 243-9517.
FCCLA has more than 225,000 members in nearly 7,000 chapters.
