Part of the "O.J." drama came to Cape Girardeau Friday as Simpson's new book, "I Want To Tell You," quickly left the shelf at Waldenbooks in the West Park Mall.
Assistant manager Robin Ross said the bookstore received 20 copies of Simpson's book and sold about 15 Friday.
"That's selling them real quick," Ross said.
Ross had three calls to reserve the book during her shift Friday evening. She didn't expect to have any more copies by the end of today.
The subtitle on the book, which retails for $17.95, is "My Response To Your Letters, Your Messages, Your Questions."
Ross said she didn't know whether the bookstore would be receive more copies because its normal delivery day is Friday. There may be more copies by next weekend, she said.
Jackie Anderson, co-owner of Metro Book Store at 415 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, said her store "had a lot of calls" for the book Friday, which hadn't been delivered yet.
She estimated about two dozen people called or stopped by to see if the book was in stock.
Anderson spent a lot of time Friday trying to order copies for her customers.
Her usual wholesaler's warehouses in Indiana, Tennessee and Colorado were sold out the first day, she said. Her wholesaler finally found some copies in California, she said.
Anderson has received a commitment from the wholesaler for 50 books, which she expects to be delivered late Tuesday or Wednesday.
