Officials meet with FEMA about storm damage

BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County officials are still waiting for an answer of whether flood damage in the third-floor law library of the courthouse as a result of March rains will be covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to the Sikeston Standard-Democrat. During their regular meeting Thursday, county commissioners met with Ron Stillwagon of FEMA to discuss the response to damage in the area earlier this year. So far, 259 individuals in Scott County have applied for FEMA assistance. About $332,000 has been paid out, Stillwagon said. But when it comes to damage at the courthouse, the officials aren't sure yet whether it is covered or not. Stillwagon said he'll need to consult with colleagues and meet with commissioners again. He reminded county residents that the deadline to file for damages is Tuesday. They can apply by calling 800-621-3362.
