POTOSI, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Department of Corrections is investigating after a female cook at the maximum-security prison in Potosi was attacked by an inmate.

The incident happened Sunday at the Potosi Correctional Center. The suspect inmate is identified as Martin Link, who is on death row for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old St. Louis girl in 1991.

The Corrections Department is not disclosing details of the attack. Sources tell KSDK-TV in St. Louis that the cook was able to kick open a door and call for help.

Corrections spokesman Brian Hauswirth says investigators want to know how the inmate was able to get into a position where he was alone with the victim. Security procedures are under review.
