Helen `Gussie' Richards

Helen "Gussie" Richards, 81, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Chaffee and Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.

She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Chaffee. On Dec. 24, 1943, she married Russell Richards in Farmington.

The couple made their home in Cape Girardeau until 1995.

She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau where she taught Sunday school, was a musician and served as an officer of the Junior Ladies Aid. She volunteered at FISH and was active in cancer programs as a Reach to Recovery volunteer.

She belonged to Christ Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Karyn Pederson of Sioux Falls; a brother, John Thomas of Bluffton, S.C., and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with private burial in Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.
