Jimmy Erlbacher of Erlbacher's Tree Service uses a chain saw to cut the trunk of the oak tree he and his crew cut down in the lawn of the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau Friday morning, Dec. 2, 2011. Removal of the oak tree, including the grinding of the stump, is going to cost the county $600. Erlbacher said the tree was around "75 years" and "it was getting bad." In a 2003 ice storm, a limb from the tree broke and destroyed the original soldier adorning the top of the Civil War fountain in the courtyard.
