After 33 years in education and seven years as superintendent of Oak Ridge School District, Cheri Fuemmeler will officially retire in July.
Fuemmeler has worked part-time as superintendent this year to oversee finances and other projects at Oak Ridge.
"I've enjoyed education. It's been a good field for me, and it's rewarding," Fuemmeler said.
Fuemmeler said the Oak Ridge school board has not made any decisions about filling the superintendent's position, but the board is conducting some preliminary interviews this week.
Fuemmeler's career in education began in 1970 as a teacher in the Scott City School District. She was an administrator with Meadow Heights School District for five years before working at Oak Ridge.
During her tenure there, the district has added an early childhood center, a new middle school and a multipurpose activity center.
Fuemmeler said after her retirement, she plans to spend time with her family. She will continue working as director of the Southeast Regional Professional Development Center at Southeast Missouri State University.
