A Future Business Leaders of America chapter was organized this year at Oak Ridge High School.
Despite their small numbers, the members have been very active. They held an induction dinner with their parents at Ryan's Steak House, sold more than $1,300 worth of candy as a fund raise, collected 75 pairs of like-new shoes for the Salvation Army, collected more than $500 for Camp Quality, took a field trip to businesses and Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, and attended the FBLA District Competition.
All eight members participated in the district competition taking 12 tests. Out of the 12 tests taken, members placed in 10 of the tests.
Charlie Phillips placed third in Business Law; Joleta Ludwig placed third in Computer Applications; Deanna Schreiner and April Hernmann placed fourth in Desktop Publishing; Laura Glueck placed fourth in Word Processing I; Joleta Ludwig placed seventh in Business Communications; Laura Glueck placed seventh in Introduction to Business Communications; David Keiner placed eighth in Business Math; Mindy Ruch placed ninth in Word Processing II; Deanna Schreiner placed 10th in Business Communications; and Mindy Ruch placed 10th in Introduction to Business Communications.
To finish out the year, members still plan to career shadow, hold a luncheon for local senior citizens, pickup trash along Hwy. E, attend the FBLA State Leadership Conference, and participate in the upcoming MS Walk in Cape Girardeau.
