The Southeast Missouri Chapter of the National Oncology Nursing Society will receive its charter during a special program Monday, Dec. 7. The local group is only the fourth chapter to be chartered in Missouri and the first in downstate Missouri.

Guest speaker will be Karen Procter, R.N., oncology nurse specialist at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky. and president of the Paducah Oncology Nursing Society chapter.

The Southeast Missouri Oncology Nursing Group has existed informally since 1982. It has been actively meeting since the spring of 1991 and has steadily increased its membership. The chapter has 22 members.

Luanne Urhahn is president of the chapter. Other officers are JoAnn Fee, vice president, and Susan Farrow, secretary-treasurer.

Counties served by the chapter include Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Butler, Dunklin, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Scott, Perry, Pemiscot, Ste. Genevieve, St. Francis, Stoddard and Wayne.

The Oncology Nursing Society is the largest professional membership oncology association in the world, with more than 23,00 members. Currently, there are 161 chapters in 48 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
