Three Notre Dame High School students recently were chosen as finalists for the Merit Scholarship. Two students were also as candidates in the Presidential Scholars program.
Jeremy Bratton, Bryan Schaefer and Jennifer Layton qualified as finalists for the Merit Scholarship.
The scholarship program operates without government funding and is sponsored by independent organizations. It is a national academic competition.
More than 6,900 students will receive a Merit Scholarship. About 14,000 were chosen as finalists.
Bratton, son of Larry and Pat Trickey, and Jennifer Layton, daughter of John and Mary Sue Layton, also were selected as candidates in the 1996 Presidential Scholars Program.
The students were chosen based on their leadership qualities and academic achievements. Final selection will be made in Washington, D.C., in mid-April.
Schaefer is the son of Don and Diane Schaefer.
