Notre Dame Regional High School's annual Activity Week will kick off with an assembly today as students, staff and parents prepare to raise money for the school's operating budget.
This year's goal is $125,000, and events and activities are scheduled throughout next week.
"The amount of spirit -- it's like our homecoming," said Brother David Migliorino, the school's principal.
Students will sell candy, fruit, trash bags, raffle tickets, pizza, mums, magazine subscriptions and Butter Braid frozen pastries.
Classes also will sell a variety of items such as spirit shirts, hats, peanut brittle, pasta, coffee and more.
A dinner will be sponsored by each class, with parents preparing the meal. Juniors will hold a pork-steak dinner Monday, and sophomores will hold a pulled-pork dinner Tuesday.
Seniors will hold a kettle-beef dinner Wednesday, and freshmen will hold a fried-chicken dinner Thursday.
All meals are served from 5 to 7 p.m.
The meal cost for adults is $6, children ages 5 to 11 are $3, and there's no charge for children ages 4 and younger.
There will be a car wash during each meal, as well as a silent auction and raffle tickets, Migliorino said.
Students will go to a daily assembly, where they can play games and win prizes.
The class that brings in the most money that day wins a "dress-down day" the following day.
The king and queen candidates from the class that brings in the largest profit per capita will be crowned at the Activity Week Dance.
The following week, there will be an assembly in the morning.
Coad Chevrolet has given a car to the school, Migliorino said, and if students bring in their quota, their names are entered in the drawing.
"Every $10 over your quota, your name gets in there a second time, and you can win a car," he said, adding the type of vehicle is a surprise, even for him. "I'll know that Friday afternoon as it's driven into the cafeteria."
Migliorino encouraged the public to attend the activities and "share the great spirit at Notre Dame."
"I can't explain the excitement," he said. "It's just a fun week."
