BENTON -- Few candidates face opposition in municipal elections across Scott County April 4.

In Scott City, voters will select a mayor and four council members. Three men are seeking the four-year post of mayor: Tim Porch, Rodney Holloway and Pete Sturm. Mayor Jerry Cummins didn't seek re-election.

Porch and Holloway are both council members and would have to give up those seats if elected. Sturm is a former city employee.

A seat in each Scott City ward is up for election. Council members are elected to two-year terms. The only race is in Ward 2 where incumbent Glendella May faces Jeffrey Curnell. May was first elected in 1998.

All other candidates are unopposed. Jerry Garms is running for the Ward 1 seat, Joe McDaniel is the candidate in Ward 3 and Charles Klughart Jr. is seeking the seat in Ward 4.

In Chaffee, voters will elect city councilmen in each of the four wards. The only contested race is in Ward 4 where Jesse H. Nordin faces Stan Shields. Other candidates: Joseph Payne in Ward 1, Robert Sullivan in Ward 2 and Bob Harris in Ward 3.

Oran voters will choose a mayor, city collector and four aldermen. No one is opposed. Candidates are Tom Urhahn, mayor; Marcia Roslen, collector; Ronald L. Diebold, Ward 1 and Jean Neal, Ward 3.

No candidates filed for the seats in wards 2 and 4, so all write-in candidates will be counted, the Scott County clerk's office said.

Commerce voters will elect Buck Hanners, Alan Wright and Buddy Vetter to the Board of Trustees. No other candidates filed for the three open seats.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
