PROPER SIGNALS: The Noon Optimists' Safety City begins with detailed instructions in biking safety. Videos are shown, local law enforcement personnel speak to the participants, and Optimist members (above) and parents demonstrate proper biking safety techniques before the participants ever enter the Safety City complex.
WALK-THROUGH: Before hitting their bikes, participants in Safety City are walked through the bicycle course by Noon Optimist Club members. Bikers must follow all rules of the roads that apply to motorists.
HELPING HAND: Even after Safety City participants mount their bicycles, members of the Noon Optimists Club are still ready to give pointers and reminders on bike safety. The Safety City course, which won the club first place in a national competition earlier, includes stop signs, yield sing,s crosswalks, intersections and other miniature versions of a real-life city.
THEY'RE OFF!: Once the learning is done, the fun begins at Safety City. Bikers get to traverse the miniature streets of Safety City, testing their newly-acquired knowledge of safety rules at stop signs, crosswalks and other features of a real-life town.
