The Southeast Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Cape Girardeau Branch of the NAACP is accepting nominations for the second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Award.
The award will be presented to a resident of the area who has "demonstrated in his or her life the values of justice, freedom, and social betterment through non-violence for which Dr. King stands," said the Rev. Craig L. Nessan, of the fellowship of reconciliation.
Nominations must be submitted by Monday, Jan. 11, and the award will be presented as part of a Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Worship Service at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, 235 Broadway.
The service will include special speakers and a community-wide children's choir. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Cape Girardeau Civic Center, 232 Broadway.
An offering at the worship service will be given in the name of the award recipient to Southeast Missouri State University's Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund.
