The Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road; Dr. Donald C. Dennington's office, 2103 Broadway; and Chuck Heady and his wife, Janet, 2928 Bella Vista, were among some big winners in Cape Girardeau last year.
Each received visits from Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce representatives with notifications and plaques denoting them as "Yard of the Month" winners.
A total of 21 "Yard of the Month" selections were made from April through October in the chamber's annual program for beautiful lawns.
Nominations for the 1997 competition are now being accepted by members of the Chamber Beautification Committee.
The committee has divided the city into seven major areas and will rotate the awards throughout the area during primary growing season.
Selection for this month will be in the Capaha Park area. Exact locations for each month are available by contacting Phyllis McDonald at the Chamber, 335-3312.
Three awards are presented each month -- two residential and one commercial.
A sign designating the award is displayed in the winning yards and a certificate is sent to each recipient.
Residents may call in their nominations to the chamber office at 335-3312 or send a letter to the chamber office at P.O. Box 98, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0098.
The beautification committee's objective in the program is to generate friendly competition and provide incentives for the citizens of the community to enhance the appearance of their yards and lawns.
