JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is accepting nominations for the 2013 Missouri Veterans Service Award, created to recognize veterans who provide volunteer service to their communities.

According to a news release issued by Kinder's office, the deadline to submit nominations is Oct. 15 and each nominee will receive a certificate of recognition that will note the nominating person or agency. Winners from across the state will be announced Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and will be presented with an official declaration from Kinder at a ceremony in Jefferson City, the release said.

Nominees must have served, or be serving, in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and volunteer a minimum of 25 hours per year. A Veterans Service Award nomination can be found at ltgov.mo.gov under "Veteran Service Information." Nomination forms also are available at veteran services agencies, libraries, courthouses and senior services agencies throughout the state, the release said.

Completed nominations can be mailed to the Lt. Governor's office at State Capitol Room 224, Jefferson City, MO 65101, or emailed to ltgovinfo@ltgov.mo.gov.
