ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The pastor of a Polish-heritage Catholic church in St. Louis says the region's archbishop rejected an offer at reconciliation.
The Rev. Marek Bozek met with Archbishop Raymond Burke and members of a church tribunal for about an hour. The meeting had been called to begin the process of defrocking the priest. Meanwhile, hundreds of the priest's supporters stood in the rain and prayed.
Bozek came out of the meeting and read aloud an offer he had made to the archbishop. It said in part that Bozek would consider leaving the parish where he works, St. Stanislaus, under certain conditions. He sought a promise that the archbishop would suspend penalties on the parish and commit to giving the church a Polish-speaking priest.
