A fire broke out at a residence at 622 Red Bud Circle on Monday night.
Cape Girardeau Fire Department battalion chief Fred Vincel said the fire was called in at 9:26 p.m. and was under control by 9:43 p.m.
According to neighbors, an older couple lives in the home, and neither were injured in the fire.
"[The couple were] sitting in the living room watching TV, and then they heard a popping noise. They heard noises and the gentleman stepped outside, and when he did he could see fire all along the ridge of the roof of the house," Vincel said.
All residents of the home had evacuated before the fire department arrived on scene.
The fire began on the west side of the home in a garage, which was entirely consumed. Vincel estimated approximately 30 percent of the home was destroyed, but the living quarters were not engulfed. Parts of the house were affected by smoke, heat and water damage he said.
The fire was contained to the house of origin and no other homes were affected by the flames, according to Vincel.
There is currently no known cause for the fire, Vincel said, but an investigation is ongoing.
