No one was hurt in a house fire early Friday morning on Sunset Boulevard, the Cape Girardeau Fire Department reported.
Battalion chief Brian Shaffer said no one was home at the time of the fire, which was reported shortly after 1 a.m.
Crews arrived at 427 N. Sunset Blvd. to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the 1.5-story house, according to a media fact sheet from the department.
Three engine companies and a ladder company spent about an hour and a half extinguishing the blaze, which caused extensive fire damage to the second floor and smoke and water damage to the first floor, the fact sheet stated.
Shaffer said the exact cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday afternoon, but it appeared to be the result of an electrical problem and was "not suspicious at all."
"We're still trying to investigate it," he said.
Jackson and Scott City provided mutual aid, the department reported.
