The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a call at 10:46 p.m. Monday at 1021 Bloomfield St., according to a release from the department. The blaze was brought under control in about 10 minutes, according to the release.

Fred Vincel, a battalion chief with the fire department, described the fire as "relatively small," and said no one was inside the store at the time because it was closed. According to Vincel, there was smoke, heat and fire damage throughout the structure.

The fire department had four engine companies and a ladder company on the scene, with the last unit leaving at 1:07 a.m. Tuesday, according to the release. The damage caused by the fire is estimated at $45,000.
