Firefighter Roger Williams with Jackson Fire and Rescue said firefighters got a call from a resident of the apartment building at 2:23 p.m. reporting smoke and flames in a downstairs apartment. The fire was contained in the living room, Williams said, and firefighters had the fire controlled within five minutes of arriving.

Residents in surrounding apartments were able to return Sunday evening. The cause of the fire was accidental, Williams said, and the apartment's residents were not home at the time.
