Incumbents of several municipal governments have already turned in their filing papers for April elections in some municipalities, while other local governments are seeing no action with less than a week left to file.
Perryville, Mo., Mayor Debbie Gahan now has a challenger in her re-election bid. Donald L. Horn filed on Jan. 3 to run. Horn could not be reached at a number provided by the city's clerk's office after several attempts by the Southeast Missourian. Incumbent aldermen have also filed in Perryville. Tom Guth is signed up for Ward 1, Paul "Butch" Flentge for Ward 2 and Curt Buerck for Ward 3. Prince Hudson also filed for Ward 3 in December. The city clerk was unreachable Wednesday due to her participation in an afternoon-long public hearing, according to her office.
In Jackson, aldermen incumbents Tim Welker in Ward 1, Dave Reiminger in Ward 2, Larry Cunningham in Ward 3 and Joe Bob Baker in Ward 4 have all filed for re-election, according to the city clerk's office. No challengers have filed.
In Chaffee, Mo., incumbents Ron Davis and Douglas Sutterfield filed for re-election to their Ward 1 and 2 seats, respectively. There are currently no filings in Wards 3 and 4.
In Scott City there are no new recent filings, according to the city clerk. Mayor Tim Porch has filed for re-election, as have all incumbent city council members except for Norman Brant in Ward 4. Ronald Worl, who served as a city council member from 2005 to 2007 in Ward 4, has filed for that ward. Bill Schwartz will run in Ward 1, Pat Brazel in Ward 2, Walter Peetz in Ward 2 and Kirk Lewis in Ward 3.
There also have been no new recent filings in Marble Hill, Mo.; neither Roger Burr nor Tim Meek has filed for re-election in Ward 1 or Ward 2.
In Delta, filing is open for mayor, Ward 1 alderman, Ward 2 alderman and city collector. Calls to the city went unanswered Wednesday.
The filing deadline has passed in Cape Girardeau. Filing for other municipal elections closes Tuesday. Elections will be held April 3.
