Ennis said Wednesday methamphetamine precursors were found in the apartment, but there was no evidence to indicate a methamphetamine lab started the fire. Ennis said despite the presence of the precursors there wasn't enough evidence of criminal activity to turn the matter over to police.

Carl Kinnison, Cape Girardeau police chief, said the department wasn't investigating the incident and had made no arrests in connection to a methamphetamine lab.

No tenants were injured in the fire.
