Cape Girardeau County officials are asking residents to postpone outdoor burning.

A combination of high temperatures, low humidity, dry ground covering and the possibility of increasing winds prompted the Cape Girardeau County Commission to issue a no-burn advisory Thursday.

They ask everyone in the county not to burn until the fire danger decreases. Those driving or working outdoors are asked to be careful discarding smoking materials, as the dry grass along the highways could ignite easily.

Campers and hunters also are asked to be cautious.

Relief from the dry weather could be coming soon. The National Weather Service is predicting possible rain showers in Cape Girardeau today and Saturday and a slight chance of rain Sunday.
