This long-ago picture was labeled "Mom, George, Dad." Their official names were Martha, George and August Friedrich. They lived on the Greensferry Road and operated a dairy. Other Friedrich children were V.C. , Tillie (Ludwig), Gus, Irene (Wolfenkoehler), Ray, Margaret (Goodman) and Elsie (Barrett). As for the cow, bull or steer -- is it one of their tame milk cows, an animal raised for meat, or could you say it is a work ox?...

A man at our church who is in his 90s can remember when oxen were used for beasts of burden. Did oxen have to have horns?

I see none here, except in my imagination. Personally I'll say the animal is an ox.

The family members are all deceased except George and Elsie, the two younger children of the August Friedrich family.
