NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Results of recent tests for black mold at the New Madrid County Jail have come back negative.

Early in June, an environmental survey company conducted tests for black mold and air quality at the jail, according to a news release from the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department.

"Areas included in the inspection were dispatch, office areas, the booking room, restrooms, the kitchen, the jail area and any other area frequently occupied. The inspector looked in closets, above ceiling tiles, in the ventilation ducting and any other area black mold may be found," Sheriff Terry Stevens said in the news release. "The inspector took both tape lifts [physical samples] and samples of the air in each of these areas."
